The Dawn Does Not Need Your Mask
You are sitting in the car, rehearsing a smile that doesn't reach your eyes before you walk through the front door. The engine is off, but the performance is already running.
You know exactly how to look like you are okay, even when you are breaking inside. But the light that rises this morning does not need your mask to shine.
It sees the exhaustion behind the grin and loves what is hidden there. You do not have to pretend to be whole to be held.
The dawn breaks whether you are ready or not, spilling grace on the driveway, on the steering wheel, on the version of you that is too tired to pretend. There is a truth that lives inside you and will be with you forever — a light that was there before the smile and remains after it fades.
You are allowed to walk in as you are. The day does not start with your performance.
It starts with the sun.
