typing out a message to someone who used to know your name, then deleting it word by word until the screen is blank again

The Light Remains When Words Disappear

The screen glows in the dark, a small rectangle of light in a room full of shadows. You type a name you used to say out loud, then watch your thumb hover over the backspace key.

Word by word, the message disappears until the screen is blank again. The silence returns, heavier than before.

But listen — the fact that you reached for them at all means the love is still alive inside you. It did not vanish when the connection broke.

The light that made you capable of caring for them is still burning in your chest, untouched by the distance. You are not defined by the unsent text or the empty thread.

You are defined by the capacity to love that remains, even when there is no one left to receive it. The darkness gathers, but it cannot extinguish the fire that made you write in the first place.
