The Light Stands in the Gap
The room is loud, the joke lands, and for a split second your body turns to share it—only to find the empty space where they used to stand. That hollow gap in the crowd is the hardest part of the afternoon.
It is the long middle of the day, where you have to perform okayness while carrying a weight that feels too heavy for one pair of shoulders. You laugh because the world expects it, but inside, you are walking through a room that feels suddenly vast and silent.
The light does not ask you to fill that space with noise or to pretend the absence isn't there. It stands in the gap with you.
It knows the specific shape of the person who is missing. You are not alone in that empty spot—the light is there, holding the silence until you can breathe again.
