Light Standing in the Empty Space
The room is loud, full of a joke that lands just right. You turn, muscle memory pulling you to share the laugh, only to find empty space where they should be standing.
The air rushes out. The silence in that gap is louder than the crowd.
In the gathering dark, the absence feels like a physical weight, a hollow space no one else can see. But listen — the light does not flee from empty spaces.
It enters them. It stands in the exact spot where your friend is missing, holding the ground until you can bear to look again.
The darkness has not overcome the love that formed the bond in the first place. The laugh you shared was real, and the love that made it possible is still there, filling the room even when the person is not.
You are not alone in the turning. The light is standing in the gap with you, keeping the space warm until morning.
