rehearsing the apology you never got to say for taking up too much of their time

You Were Made to Fill This Room

The morning light is unforgiving when it hits the wall where you are rehearsing words you never got to say. You are playing the scene again: the apology for taking up too much of their time, for being too heavy, for staying too long.

But the light does not measure your worth by how little space you occupy. It is not offended by your presence.

It does not keep a ledger of minutes stolen or burdens shared. You are trying to earn a forgiveness that was already given before you even spoke.

The light is not waiting for you to shrink. It is waiting for you to stop hiding behind the mask of 'I'm sorry.' You did not take up too much room.

You took up exactly the room you were made to fill. The apology is a cage you built yourself, and the key was never in their pocket.
