the terror that if you stop performing, the love will vanish

The Father Runs Before You Speak

The afternoon asks for your performance, and you give it, terrified that if you stop moving, the love will vanish. You smile at the work you do not feel, certain that your stillness would be a rejection.

But there is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, and before the apology, before the speech, he ran. The light does not wait for your resume.

It does not wait for your next achievement. It runs to meet you exactly where you are — exhausted, empty, and done.

You think you must earn your place at the table, but the feast was prepared before you ever arrived. The love you fear losing is not a wage you earn by working.

It is the ground you stand on. Stop.

The mask can fall. The light sees what is behind it, and it is enough.
