waking up and immediately rehearsing an apology for a mistake no one else remembers

The Court Has Long Since Adjourned

The sun is up, and the mask is already on your face before you've even left the bed. You are rehearsing an apology for a mistake no one else remembers, polishing a stone that only you can feel in your pocket.

The world expects you to perform okayness, to smile at the coffee shop and type the emails as if your chest isn't tight with yesterday's ghost. But the light sees behind the mask—it sees the exhaustion of carrying a verdict that was never issued.

There is a truth that lives in us and will be with us forever, and it does not require you to be perfect to be present. You are trying to earn a peace that was already given, acting as if you are still on trial when the court has long since adjourned.

The father is not waiting for your speech; he is running toward the person you are right now, tired and afraid. Put the stone down.

The light does not need your performance; it only needs you to take the mask off.
