Faith Enough for This Morning
The sun is rising, painting the sky in colors that demand a response you cannot give. You sit in the pew, surrounded by voices you know by heart, while your own chest feels hollowed out by silence.
The hymn swells around you, but the belief that used to fuel your voice feels like a memory from someone else's life. You are not broken because you cannot sing; you are simply waiting for a new sound to rise from the quiet.
Thomas said the kingdom is inside you and outside you, but right now it feels like the kingdom is everywhere except in your throat. That is alright.
The light does not need your performance to be present. It was there before the first note was sung, and it remains when the last one fades.
What you look forward to has already come, even if you cannot recognize it yet. You made it through the night.
That is enough faith for this morning.
