the secret fear that if nothing terrible happens today, you are wasting your capacity to endure

The Light Does Not Require Crisis

The sun has gone down, and the quiet of the house feels less like rest and more like a holding pattern. You scan the day for the disaster that never arrived, and a strange guilt sets in—the fear that by surviving without a battle, you have let your strength go soft.

But the light does not require a crisis to prove it is real. It was there in the ordinary hours just as much as it would have been in the emergency.

Jesus told a man once, 'Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.' Sometimes the hardest testimony is not about what went wrong, but about what went right. The capacity you are guarding was not built for suffering alone; it was built for living.

You did not waste your day because it was quiet. You kept the lamp burning through the stillness.
