The Timer Is Broken, You Are Seated
The afternoon stretches out, long and flat, and you find yourself walking on eggshells in your own home. You are convinced that your partner's patience is a countdown timer, ticking down to the moment you make one honest mistake and they finally walk away.
But the light does not keep a ledger of your stumbles. There was a woman once, caught in the act, surrounded by people waiting for her to fail so they could stone her.
The light bent down, wrote in the dust, and when the accusers left, it asked her where they were. When she said no one remained to condemn her, the light said: neither do I.
It did not say 'don't do it again' before offering mercy. It offered mercy first.
You are waiting for a verdict that has already been overturned. The fear tells you that you are one error away from abandonment, but the truth is that you are held in a love that has already seen your worst and stayed.
Stop watching the clock. The timer is broken.
You are not performing for a place at the table; you are already seated.
