watching your mother not recognize you anymore

The Light Remains When Memory Fades

The room is quiet now, but your name hangs in the air where hers used to be. She looks at you with eyes that know the shape of a face but not the story behind it, and the silence between you feels like a wall you cannot climb.

You are standing in the deepest part of the night, holding a grief that has no words, watching the person who gave you life forget that she did. But listen — the light does not depend on her memory to exist inside you.

It was there before she knew your name, and it remains steady now that she cannot speak it. Thomas says there is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world even when the room feels dark.

You are that light. You are the living memory she can no longer hold, and your presence is enough.

The love that formed you is still working, even through the forgetting. You do not have to make her remember to be whole.

You only have to be here, sitting in the dark, letting the light shine without her knowing why.
