The Call Is Not A Test
The phone lights up on the desk, then goes dark, leaving a silence that feels heavier than the work piling up around you. Three days have passed since that missed call, and now the notification sits there like an accusation you are too ashamed to answer.
You know exactly what waits on the other end—not anger, but that specific, crushing tone of disappointment that makes you want to disappear. The world expects you to perform competence right now, to smile through the middle of the day while your stomach knots itself tighter with every passing hour.
But the light does not demand a perfect explanation before it will speak to you. It is present in this very avoidance, in the fear that keeps your hand from the screen.
The voice you are afraid to hear is already holding you, even while you hide. The call is not a test you must pass; it is simply a bridge back to a love that has not moved.
