Rest Is Not Letting Them Go
The panic hits you right as the heavy sleep tries to pull you under. You tell yourself that closing your eyes is a betrayal, that resting means you are finally letting them go.
But sleep is not forgetting. It is simply the body admitting it can no longer carry the weight alone.
The light does not ask you to stay awake to prove your love. It sits with you in the dark, holding the memory you are too tired to hold yourself.
You are not losing them by resting. You are making room for the grief to settle without breaking you.
The one who watches over you does not sleep, so you can.
