staring at your reflection in the dark window after everyone leaves, realizing you don't recognize the person who spent all day smiling

The Light Remains When The Mask Falls

The office is quiet now. The performance is over.

You catch your reflection in the dark window and realize you don't recognize the person who spent all day smiling. The mask feels heavy, fused to the skin.

But the light does not need your performance to find you. It sees the exhaustion behind the eyes.

There is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world. Even when you are too tired to shine, even when the face in the glass feels like a stranger.

You are not the mask you wore today. You are the light that was there before the smile started, and remains now that it has faded.

The day asked you to be someone else; the night invites you to come home to who you are.
