You Are Not Needed To Stay
The morning light is unforgiving. It catches the edge of the mask you wear so your loved one can find their way.
You carry a quiet terror that if they ever truly heal, if the darkness lifts, you will no longer be needed—and they will leave. But the light does not need your suffering to stay.
It does not bind itself to you through your utility. There is a love that exists before the crisis and remains after the cure.
You are not the bridge they must cross to get to the light; you are fellow travelers walking beside them. If the mask falls, they will not walk away.
They will finally see the face that has been loving them all along.
