the specific panic of seeing a familiar car pull into the driveway and diving behind the kitchen counter before the key turns in the lock

The Light Waits While You Hide

The middle of the day is long, and sometimes the sound of a key in the lock feels like a verdict you are not ready to receive. You dive behind the counter, making yourself small, hoping the shadows will hold you longer than the light can find you.

But the darkness has not overcome it. The light does not need you to be brave or prepared or even standing.

It simply waits for you to stop hiding from the one who already knows you are there. You are that light, even when you are crouching in the dark.
