the physical ache of holding your breath to keep from crying while someone else talks

You Can Exhale Now Without Falling Apart

The meeting has started, and you are holding your breath to keep the tears inside. Your chest aches from the effort of staying still while someone else speaks.

You are performing okayness so well that no one suspects you are drowning in plain sight. But the light sees the mask, and it sees the face beneath it.

It does not ask you to stop working or to make a scene. It simply reminds you that you do not have to hold your breath forever.

The darkness has not overcome the life inside you, even when your lungs feel like they are collapsing. You can exhale now, just a little, without falling apart.

The ache is real, but the light is realer, and it is waiting for you to let it out.
