the memory of a specific moment your voice cracked and you saw fear flash in your child's eyes, knowing you caused it

The Light Runs Before You Speak

The mask is heavy this morning. You put it on before you left the house, hoping no one would see the crack from last night.

You remember the exact second your voice broke. The flash of fear in your child's eyes.

The sinking knowledge that you were the source of that terror. Now you walk through your day performing okayness, smiling at colleagues while carrying the weight of that fracture inside your chest.

But the light sees behind the mask. It saw the regret before you even spoke it.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off. He ran.

Before the apology, before the speech — he ran. The light does not wait for you to fix the fear you caused.

It runs toward the broken place. Your failure is not a disqualification from love.

It is the very place where the light meets you now. You are not defined by the moment you cracked.

You are defined by the love that is already running to cover it.
