the terror that your silence is the only thing keeping you from being cast out

The Door Was Never Locked From Outside

The mask feels heavy this morning, doesn't it? You are holding your breath, convinced that if you speak your true name, the room will turn against you.

That silence is the only wall between you and being cast out. But the light does not require your performance to stay.

It saw you before you put the mask on, and it loves what is underneath. There is a voice inside you waiting to be brought forth — not to impress, but to save you from the crushing weight of pretending.

If you do not bring it out, the hiding will destroy you. But if you speak, even in a trembling whisper, you will find that the door was never locked from the outside.

You were the one holding it shut.
