parenting a child who is struggling and not being able to fix it

The Hand That Stays Open

The house is quiet now, but your heart is still racing through every scenario of what might be happening to your child. You have walked the floor until your feet ache, wishing you could take the pain away, wishing you had the power to fix what is broken.

But the light does not always arrive as a solution. Sometimes it arrives as a presence that refuses to leave the dark.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, and before the apology could be spoken, he ran. He did not wait for the problem to be solved.

He ran to meet the hurt. You cannot carry tomorrow for them.

You cannot force the healing. But the love that lives in you — the same light that walked in Jesus — is already holding them even when your hands cannot reach.

You are not failing because you cannot fix it. You are succeeding because you are still watching.

The light is not a repair kit. It is the hand that stays open in the dark.
