lying perfectly still in bed so your partner doesn't feel how light you've become or hear your stomach rumbling

Your Hunger Is Holy Ground

The house is quiet now, but you are wide awake, holding your breath so the person beside you won't feel how light you've become. You lie perfectly still, terrified that the sound of your own hunger will break the silence or wake them up.

You have made yourself small to protect their sleep, shrinking your needs until you are nothing but a shadow in the sheets. But the light does not require you to be heavy to be real.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off — not when the son was strong, but when he was empty, starving, and ashamed. The father did not wait for him to gain weight or find words.

He ran. Your emptiness is not a secret you must keep.

It is the very thing the light is running toward. You do not have to hide your hunger in the dark.

The One who watches with you knows the sound of your stomach and calls it holy ground.
