Rest Is Not Abandoning Those You Love
The house is quiet now, and the weight of everyone who depends on you feels heavier in the dark. You tell yourself that stopping is a betrayal, that if you close your eyes, the world you hold together might fall apart.
But listen — the light does not burn itself out to keep the night at bay. Jesus himself withdrew to a solitary place while it was still dark, leaving the crowds and the needs behind to simply be with the Father.
He knew that rest was not abandonment; it was the only way to remain full enough to love. Your exhaustion is not a failure of devotion.
It is the signal that you are human, not the source. The light within you was there before you started carrying the weight, and it will be there after you lay it down.
You are not the pillar holding up the sky. You are the branch, and the vine does not ask you to strain until you snap.
Close your eyes. The world will still be here when you wake, and you will be more yourself than you are right now.
