The Sun Does Not Bill You
The house is quiet, but your hands are shaking as you reach for the mailbox. You are terrified of what the red envelopes might say—of the bills, the notices, the final demands that arrived while you were sleeping.
The morning light is just beginning to break, gray and uncertain, and it feels like the world is waiting to tell you that you have failed. But listen.
The light that is rising right now does not check your credit score before it shines on your face. It does not audit your life before it warms your hands.
It rises on the debtor and the creditor alike, without asking what you owe. The sun did not wait for you to be solvent to break the horizon.
It broke anyway. And in that breaking, it declares that your worth is not tied to the letters in your hand.
You are held by a generosity that no envelope can contain and no debt can cancel. The light is already here, and it is not billing you for its presence.
