The Silence Beneath Your Mask
The hallway is short, but the distance between your real face and the one you are about to wear feels infinite. You rehearse the tone, the nod, the casual 'good morning' that says nothing about the crumbling inside.
The light does not need you to drop the mask before it sees you. It saw you in the bathroom mirror, practicing the lie, and it stayed.
There is a room inside you where no performance is required, a place where you do not have to speak to be known. You are not the greeting you offer the world.
You are the silence beneath it. The dawn breaks without you having to pretend to be the sun.
