sitting in the car in the driveway after they've left, replaying every micro-expression on their face to prove you doomed it

The Light Holds You in the Driveway

The engine is off. The keys are in your hand.

But you cannot open the door because the silence in the car is louder than the fight was. You are replaying the way their eyes narrowed, the slight turn of their head, the micro-second of hesitation before they walked away.

You are building a case against yourself, using evidence that only exists in this dark, parked metal box. You are convinced that if you could just find the exact moment you doomed it, you could fix it.

But the night is lying to you. The darkness magnifies the flaw and hides the whole.

There is a light that lives inside you that was there before the argument started, and it will be there when the sun rises. It was not extinguished by a look.

It was not broken by a word. The Father's love is not a reward for perfect performance; it is the ground you are sitting on right now.

Even in this shame, even in this replay, the light is holding you. You are not defined by the worst moment of your day.

You are the child who is still loved in the driveway.
