No Performance Required at Your Door
The engine is off, but the silence is loud. You are sitting in the driveway, staring at the front door, terrified that walking inside means you have to perform a version of yourself that you no longer have the energy to be.
The mask feels heavy tonight. Heavier than the steering wheel.
Heavier than the day. But listen — the light does not require your performance.
It does not need you to be happy before you cross the threshold. There was a woman once who was caught in the worst kind of shame, dragged into the public eye, ready to be torn apart.
And the light bent down, wrote in the dust, and waited for the accusers to leave. When she was alone, he did not ask for an explanation.
He did not ask for a smile. He simply said: 'Neither do I condemn you.' That is the voice waiting for you in your own hallway.
Not a demand for joy, but an invitation to rest. You do not have to bring anything into that house but your honest, tired self.
The light is already there, sitting on the couch, waiting to meet you exactly as you are.
