sitting in the car in the driveway after work, rehearsing a calm greeting before walking through the front door

The engine is off, but the quiet feels loud. You are sitting in the dark, rehearsing a calm voice you do not feel, trying to build a wall between the exhaustion of the day and the people waiting inside. You think you must be strong before you turn the key. You think you must fix yourself before you walk through the door.

But the light does not need your performance. It does not need the mask you are crafting in the rearview mirror. There is a voice speaking into this silence, softer than your fear: 'Do not weep and do not grieve nor be irresolute, for his grace will be entirely with you.'

Entirely. Not a portion for the strong, and a scrap for the weak. The grace is already inside the car. It is in the breath you are holding. It is in the tears you are swallowing. You do not have to manufacture peace to deserve it. The peace is already here, waiting for you to stop fighting it.

You are not walking into your house alone. You are walking into a room where the light has already arrived.
