the secret shame of feeling relieved that the old self is gone, even while mourning them

Relief Is Not Betrayal, It Is Light

The day is ending, and with it, a version of you that carried so much weight. You might feel a quiet, secret relief that this old self is finally gone, even as your heart breaks for what was lost.

That relief is not a betrayal; it is the light recognizing that the chains have fallen. There is a joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, a celebration not for the sin, but for the finding of what was lost.

The father ran before the apology was finished because he saw the son returning to life, not returning to punishment. You are allowed to mourn the person you were while being grateful they are no longer here to suffer.

The light does not demand you miss the darkness just because you lived in it for so long.
