the terror of hearing your own name spoken softly because you're convinced it's the prelude to being asked to leave

The Name That Calls You Home

The day is done, and the house is settling into its quiet. In this gathering dark, every soft sound feels like a verdict.

You hear your name spoken gently, and your whole body braces for the command to leave. As if love has an expiration date.

As if you are only welcome while you are useful. But listen to the voice that calls you now.

It does not speak your name to dismiss you. It speaks to draw you closer.

There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, covered in shame and expecting rejection. Before the apology could even be formed, the father ran.

He did not ask for credentials. He did not check a list.

He threw his arms around him and kissed him. The name was spoken, and the response was not 'go' but 'stay.' The light does not call you out into the cold.

It calls you in to the fire. You are not being asked to pack your bags.

You are being invited to take off your shoes. The terror says you are temporary.

The truth says you are home.
