The Silence After The Applause
The afternoon sun is bright, but it casts the sharpest shadows when the room finally empties. You smile at the crowd, you play the part they need, and then the door closes and the silence rushes in like water.
It is a terrifying thing to be applauded for a version of yourself that does not actually exist. To feel known by everyone and yet utterly unseen.
The light does not ask you to keep performing. It sighs.
It looks at the mask you are holding and says: be opened. Not to the crowd, but to the quiet truth underneath.
You do not have to be the person they cheered for. You only have to be the one who is real.
