the specific ache of rehearsing a polite lie about how you're doing because the truth feels too heavy to place on anyone else

The Light Beneath Your Polite Lie

The afternoon asks a simple question: 'How are you?' And you feel the weight of the answer rise in your throat, heavy and jagged. So you smooth it out.

You offer the polite lie. 'I'm fine,' you say, because the truth feels too large to place on anyone else's desk.

You carry the silence alone, thinking you are protecting them from your storm. But there is a light inside you that does not need your protection.

It is not afraid of your jagged edges. It does not require you to be fine.

It only requires you to be real. The lie is the mask; the light is the face beneath it.

You were sent into this world not to perform okayness, but to illuminate the very places you are hiding. The truth you are holding back is the very thing the world needs to see.
