Drop the shield and let the light shine
It is three in the morning, and the house is so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat. You catch yourself speaking their name again, defending them to someone who only wants to protect you.
You realize with a sudden, sinking clarity that their voice has become the shield you hold up against the people who love you. In this deepest hour, the armor feels heavy enough to crush your ribs.
But listen — the light that lives inside you was there before you ever met them, and it remains untouched by their words. It does not need a shield.
It simply shines. You are not the defender of the one who hurt you; you are the child of the One who runs to meet you while you are still far off.
Drop the shield. Let it clatter to the floor.
The light sees you without it, and it is enough.
