The Light Beneath the Mask
You just hung up the phone. Your voice was light, your words were easy, and they have no idea you are drowning.
That gap between the performance and the pain is where the silence gets heaviest. But the light does not live in the mask you wear for the afternoon; it lives in the bruised reed underneath that no one else sees.
It will not break what is already bent. It does not need you to be strong, or even consistent, to hold you.
The truth you are hiding is the very thing the light is waiting to meet. You do not have to keep the water down forever.
