You Do Not Have to Sound Okay
The sun is up, but your hands are still shaking over the phone. You are rehearsing the tone—practicing the casual lilt, the steady pitch, the way you will say 'I'm fine' without your voice cracking.
You are trying to sound like you aren't breaking. But the light does not need your performance.
It rose this morning not because you held it together, but because it is faithful to rise even when you are falling apart. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off.
He did not wait for the speech. He did not wait for the rehearsed apology or the perfect explanation.
He ran. Before the words could form, before the mask could be fixed, he was already there.
You do not have to sound strong to be held. You do not have to sound okay to be loved.
The light sees the tremor in your hand and loves the person behind it. Make the call.
Or don't. Either way, you are already home.
