The Light Does Not Need Your Performance
The sun is up, and you are standing in the light again, wearing the smile you practiced in the mirror. It feels heavy today, this mask of okayness you put on so no one will ask if you are breaking inside.
You feel like a fraud because your hands are empty and you have nothing left to give to the people who expect you to be whole. But listen — the light does not need your performance.
It never asked for your strength, only your presence. There is a tenderness arriving with this morning that sees right through the act and loves what is hiding behind it.
You do not have to manufacture joy to be held by the dawn. The rising sun shines on those living in darkness not to expose them, but to guide their feet into peace.
You made it through the night, and that is enough. The light is not a reward for your smile; it is the ground you stand on when the smile fades.
