The Light Needs No Receipt
The sun is up, and you are already running the numbers in your head. Listing the breaths.
Cataloging the small mercies. Trying to build a case that you are not ungrateful for being allowed to stay.
You speak the thanks aloud just to prove you deserve the morning. But the light does not require a receipt.
It rises on the evil and the good without asking for a ledger first. The sun is not a payment for your gratitude; it is a promise that you are still here.
You do not have to earn the dawn by reciting what you have received. The light is already in your lungs, before you say a word.
Stop counting. Just breathe.
