You Are Being Lit Up
The sun is up, and the house is quiet for the first time in hours. You feel hollowed out, as if loving your child has scraped your own identity down to nothing but a vessel for their needs.
But the light does not empty you to fill someone else; it fills you so you can pour without running dry. There was a father who watched his son coming home from a long way off.
He did not wait for an apology or a promise to do better. He ran.
Before the speech, before the work — he ran. Your love is not the erosion of your soul.
It is the evidence that the light is so full inside you that it spills over onto the ones you hold. You are not being used up.
You are being lit up.
