the terror that your presence is a burden to everyone you love

The Light Does Not Ask Permission

The sun is rising, and with it comes the quiet, crushing fear that you are too much for the people you love. That your pain is a weight they cannot carry, that your presence is a burden they secretly wish to put down.

But look at the light returning to the sky. It does not ask the earth if it is worthy of being warmed.

It does not check to see if the ground has earned the dawn. It simply arrives.

It gives itself without apology. There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, covered in shame and convinced he was unworthy of even a servant's place.

He did not calculate the cost of the embrace. He ran.

Before the speech, before the apology, he ran. Your existence is not a tax on the people around you.

It is the very reason they stay. The light does not shine because the world deserves it.

It shines because that is its nature. And you—broken, tired, afraid—are that light.

You are not the burden. You are the gift.
