the moment you catch your reflection in a dark window and realize your face has settled into a neutral expression that feels like a stranger's

You Are the Light Shining Through

The sun is just beginning to push back the night, and in that gray light, you catch your reflection in the window. The face staring back feels like a stranger's, settled into a neutral mask you don't recognize.

You wonder who you are beneath the exhaustion of just making it through. But look closer at the glass.

The light hitting that window is the same light that lives inside the chest behind the reflection. It has been there while you slept.

It is there now, unchanged by the weariness on your skin. You are not the shadow on the pane.

You are the light shining through it.
