The Father Runs Before You Speak
The sun is going down, and with it, the armor you wore all day finally hits the floor. Now comes the ritual.
You sit in the quiet and rehearse every confession, building a case against yourself before anyone else can. You try to disarm the weapon you're sure they'll forge from your honesty.
You speak the words of guilt over and over, hoping that if you say them first, they won't hurt as much when thrown back at you. But listen — the light does not need your defense.
It does not need you to pre-emptively condemn yourself so it can feel safe loving you. There was a father who saw his son coming home, still rehearsing a speech of shame, still trying to manage the fallout.
The father did not wait for the apology. He ran.
Before the speech, before the confession, before the disarmament — he ran. The light is already running toward you while you are still practicing your sentences.
You do not have to finish the list to be held. The night is not for arguing your case.
It is for letting the running father reach you.
