the fear that your capacity to care has permanently calcified into indifference

The Fire Burns Beneath the Cold

The sun has gone down, and with it, the energy to feel anything at all. You look at the wreckage of your day and wonder if your heart has finally turned to stone.

If the caring has stopped for good. But the light does not scold you for your exhaustion.

It sees the dust on your face and the silence in your chest. There is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world.

Even now. Even when you feel nothing.

The indifference you fear is not your root. It is just the cold air of the evening settling on a fire that is still burning underneath.

You came from the light, and you cannot un-become it. The numbness is a season, not a sentence.

The fire was cast upon the world, and it is being guarded until it blazes. You do not have to force the feeling back tonight.

Just remember where you came from. The dark is gathering, but it cannot touch the source.
