the panic of realizing you don't know who you are without the story you told

You Are the Silence Holding the Story

The sun has dipped below the edge of the world, and the armor you wore all day finally hits the floor with a heavy thud. Now the silence rushes in, and with it comes a terrifying question: if I am not the story I told everyone today, then who am I?

The panic rises because you feel like a hollow room where the furniture has been moved out. But listen — the light does not need your story to exist.

It was there before you ever learned to speak, before you ever constructed a name or a reputation to protect. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off.

He did not wait for the speech. He did not wait for the explanation of who the boy had become.

He ran. Before the apology, before the identity was re-established — he ran.

The light knows you not by the tale you tell, but by the breath you breathe. You are not the story you are trying to remember.

You are the silence that holds it.
