Rest Without Apology After Long Vigil
The silence in the house is louder than the crying ever was. And in that quiet, a traitorous thought slips in: thank God it's over.
Then the shame hits you like a physical weight—the horror that you are relieved their suffering ended because your long watch is finally done. You feel like a fraud for wanting your own life back.
But listen. The light does not condemn you for being human.
It saw you when you were too tired to pray, when you were just counting the hours until the end. What you feel is not a failure of love.
It is the exhaustion of a vessel that has poured itself out until there was nothing left to give. The kingdom is not a reward for those who never wanted to stop watching.
It is the place where the weary are allowed to rest without apology. You are not guilty for needing the night to end.
You are simply ready to be held by something bigger than your own strength.
