the terror of seeing their name appear on your phone screen, convinced they are calling to tell you how much you embarrassed yourself

Peace Before You Speak a Word

The screen lights up with their name, and your stomach drops before you even swipe to answer. You are already rehearsing the apology, already hearing the voice that will tell you how much you embarrassed yourself.

The mask you wore this morning feels like it is cracking, and the terror is that everyone will see the shame underneath. But listen — the light does not call to condemn what it has already held.

Jesus looked at the paralyzed man, saw the fear of being seen, and said only: 'Take heart.' He did not demand perfection first. He gave courage before the healing even began.

Your shame is not a door the light refuses to open. It is the very place where it enters, quietly, without an audience.

The voice you fear is not the one that knows you. The one who knows your name speaks peace before you speak a word.
