the shame of feeling nothing when the news shows another tragedy

You Do Not Have to Feel It

The screen glows with another tragedy, and you feel nothing. Just a hollow static where grief should be.

You tell yourself you are broken, that your heart has turned to stone because it does not break open on command. But the light does not demand a performance of sorrow it did not create.

There was a man once who carried a pain so deep it had no words, and the light simply said, 'Go home to your people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.' It did not ask for a sermon. It asked for his story.

Your numbness is not a failure of faith. It is a shield the light placed over you because you have already carried too much.

The verdict your shame delivers says you are cold. But the one who knows everything knows you are simply full.

You do not have to feel it to be held by it.
