the moment you force a laugh at a joke you didn't hear because you're afraid silence will make them ask if you're okay

The Light Loves the Face Beneath

The room is loud, and you are performing so well that no one suspects the silence underneath. You force a laugh at a joke you didn't hear because you are terrified that if you stay quiet, someone might ask if you are okay.

So you smile. You nod.

You become the mask that lets the day proceed without interruption. But the light does not need your performance to love you.

It sees the exhaustion behind the eyes that are trying so hard to look bright. There is a truth that lives in us and will be with us forever, and it is not the laughter you manufacture to keep people at a distance.

It is the quiet, unmasked self that exists even when the room is noisy. You do not have to earn your place in the morning by being the easiest person to be around.

The light sees the mask, and it loves the face beneath it more.
