The Light Holds You Before The Call
The phone buzzes on the nightstand, and your stomach drops before you even see the screen. It is the middle of the day, but the light in the room feels gray, heavy with the things you are afraid to hear.
You wait for the battery to die. You wait for the screen to go black, hoping that if you do not look, the news cannot touch you.
The silence stretches out, thick and suffocating, while the device lies there like a stone. But the light does not depend on the screen staying dark to protect you.
It is already in the room, holding the space between the buzz and your breath. The call may come, and it may bring hard words, but the love that holds you is larger than any message that can be delivered.
You do not have to face the ringing alone.
