Freedom Comes Before the Change
The night is quiet enough now that you can hear the suspicion in your own head. You wonder if your sorrow is just a strategy—a way to talk your way out of the consequences rather than a true change of heart.
You feel like you are negotiating with the light, trying to strike a deal. But listen.
There was a man once who stood in the dust of a temple courtyard, surrounded by people holding stones, waiting for him to condemn a woman caught in failure. He did not speak about her future behavior.
He did not demand a promise of perfection. He simply bent down and wrote in the dirt, waiting until the accusers left.
Then he looked at her and said, 'Neither do I condemn you.' He did not say, 'Go and prove you are sorry.' He said, 'Go.' The freedom came before the change. The acceptance came before the repair.
Your fear that you are faking it is just the darkness trying to keep you paralyzed. The light does not need your perfect performance to love you.
It only needs your honesty. You are not forgiven because you finally got your act together.
You are forgiven so that you can finally stop pretending.
