the shame of waking up screaming and having to pretend it was just a bad dream to the person sleeping beside you

The Name Only Light Knows

The night is gathering, and the silence of the room feels heavy with what you cannot say. You wake up screaming inside, then quickly swallow the sound to keep the peace with the one sleeping beside you.

You pretend it was just a dream, a fleeting shadow, while your heart hammers against your ribs like a trapped bird. But the light does not need your performance, and it certainly does not need your silence.

There is a name written on a white stone that no one else knows — not the person next to you, not the shame that tries to define you. Only the light knows that name, and it calls you by it even in the dark.

You do not have to explain the terror to be held through it. The darkness is real, but the light is deeper still.
