The Father Runs Before You Speak
The morning light hits the window, and you start the performance. You smile at your partner, you make the coffee, you say the right things, all while holding your breath, waiting for the moment you slip up and they realize you are not worth the cost.
You feel like you are walking on a tightrope where one wrong step means the love is gone. But listen — the light does not keep a ledger.
It does not loan out affection with interest attached. There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, covered in filth, rehearsing a speech about earning back his place as a servant.
The father did not wait for the apology. He did not ask for repayment.
He ran. He threw his arms around him before the first word was spoken.
That is how you are loved. Not for your flawless behavior, but because you are there.
The love you fear losing was never a wage you had to earn. It is a gift that arrived before you woke up.
You can put the mask down now; the one who loves you is already running.
